How to fall in love with Trastevere at a glance

A month before Christmas, Rome becomes even more fabulous. Today we will walk along the narrow streets of the most atmospheric and my favorite area of Rome - Trastevere. Many restaurants have already decorated the windows, and decorations appear on the streets, which are becoming more and more every day.

Ready to feel the spirit of the Eternal City?

We will begin our walk in the Trastevere district from the Septa Gates (Porta Septimiana), which became known to many from the film “Rome Adventures” (“To Rome with Love”) with Woody Allen.

Yes, it was on this street that one of the main characters of the film lived in his youth.

Today, the American University (John Cabot University) is located here.

In Trastevere, in addition to dozens of lanes where you can wander for hours, there are two central streets, Via Della Scala and Via della Lungaretta - they are most brightly decorated. Take a walk on the first.

Hundreds of lights and stars are not particularly original, but nevertheless create an unusual and cozy atmosphere.

Literally a hundred meters from Porta Septimiana at Via Della Scala, 51 is located one of the most delicious gelateria in Rome - Gelateria Alla Scala, do not pass. Turning onto Vicolo del Bologna, 45 you will find yourself in the pizzeria Dar Poeta about which we already wrote in the article "Where to eat tasty and inexpensive in Rome." As you can see, the concentration of tasty places is off the charts here, but let's still get an appetite.

I hope that there is still space left in your stomachs, as La Prosciutteria Trastevere is located further on Via Della Scala 71. As you may have guessed, the real prosciutto can and should be tried right here.

Let's take a roll at the student G-Bar on Via della Pelliccia and take a peek at the restaurant windows.

As you know, there are hundreds of restaurants in Trastevere and only those who hastened to decorate their facades or shop windows got into this series of photographs. There are many worthy places here, so if your favorite restaurant did not get into the review, do not despair.

Having enjoyed the narrow streets, sooner or later we will find ourselves on the second main street of Trastevere Via della Lungaretta.

At Via della Lungaretta, 101 is located the Carlo Menta restaurant - one of the cheapest and most famous in Rome. If you are on a budget, feel free to book a table here. Lasagna for 5 euros, homemade wine - 8 euros per liter, Tiramisu or panna cotta for 3 euros - do not expect anything supernatural, but for the first acquaintance with simple Italian cuisine this is a very worthy option.

Next to Carlo Menta at Via della Lungaretta, 54 is located one of the oldest Osteria - Antica Osteria Rugantino, specializing in Roman cuisine, we advise you to stop by.

Do you like the pictures? Now you know where to go in the Eternal City for cuisine and impressions.

Share the atmosphere of New Year's Rome with your friends, give tips in the comments and welcome to Trastevere.
